Reader Input Sought by Somerset County Tourism
Somerset County Tourism (SCT) recognizes the value of making Somerset County a sustainable place to live, work and visit. The county currently boasts a wealth of agricultural assets, green practices and wellness programs that promote environmental responsibility and healthy lifestyles. Eighty-six county farms and nearly 4,000 acres of open space provide access to locally grown foods and a natural setting for myriad recreational activities. Year-round programming by the Somerset Medical Center and countless spas promote health of the mind and body. Environmental education centers in Basking Ridge and at Duke Farms (re-opening this spring) educate the public on conservation and provide numerous opportunities to play a role in protecting the area’s scenic surroundings.
In the coming months, SCT staff will work with local organizations to submit articles to Natural Awakenings magazine about these innumerable sustainable and wellness resources. The editorial pieces will feature organizations and pursuits that enrich the Somerset County experience, as well as local products and services that promote a wholesome existence.
Natural Awakenings readers are encouraged to utilize the resources detailed in the articles, to share their experiences with others and to suggest topics of interest. “Reciprocal dialogue on the subject of a sustainable Somerset will serve to foster eco-friendly innovations, ensuring that the quality of life we share today is available to future generations of Somerset County residents and visitors,” says Jacqueline Morales, Somerset County director of tourism.
