The Seagulls Nest

A slice of heaven in Sandy Hook

This is Mary writing/blogging. Our publishers pick for the month of July is the Seagulls Nest located at 100 Hartshorne Drive, Sandy Hook Park, Area D, Highlands, NJ. 07732. I grew up in Middletown NJ and now that I am 47, can easily talk about the days of cutting High School and heading en drove with my friends to Sandy Hook, first beach. Several years ago, friends of ours who still live in the area told me about the Seagulls Nest, a restaurant and bar, and about this “guy” who plays God Bless America at sunset every night. This sounded really amusing and we had to investigate. Stephanie and I headed out one afternoon and found “The Nest”. The owner, Eddie Seagull is a veteran who holds the importance of that title lovingly and seriously. Each night Eddie hands out American flags to the kids, spends several minutes using the microphone to remind us about the importance and to praise our military, firemen and women, police etc. Everyone stands-up, hold hands and belts out their best version of God Bless America. There is something touching about this no matter how many times you go. They usually have a great acoustic guitar player, always yummy food served in plastic containers but they recycle so don’t get excited about the plastic, and the SUNSET! We have been there with an amazing sunset on the bayside and a beautiful full moon on the ocean side. You can see NYC and in this small little upstairs “nest”, there is heaven. We visit the Seagulls nest often and we recommend you do to…to see a beautiful sunset and appreciate the owner Eddie Seagull and this little campy place that we love.

Happy 4th of July
