What area of dog health do you think owners need to pay more attention to?
Nutrition FOR HEALTH AND WELLNESS
Too many dogs are overweight either by being fed too much food and/or too many treats. Pets not getting enough exercise. Ideally, dogs should be fed a raw food diet. Studies have shown that raw food helps pets live a longer healthier life. In addition, a holistic diet and lifestyle will contribute to a longer, more disease-free life for your pet.
Raw Food Brand Suggestions:
Medicus Veterinary Diets
Raw Dynamic
The Simple Food Project
Solutions Pet Product
Dogs should also be given more vegetables as treats.
Recommended Treats:
CocoTherapy – freeze dried treats
Raw Dynamic - air dried treats
For optimum health, see a holistic vet practitioner who can prescribe:
Supplements/Food Toppers/Treats
Digestive Enzymes

Omega 3 Fatty Acids (Fish Oils)
Complete supplement like Missing Link if on Kibble
Body Care Guidance
“Thump the Thymus Gland” daily to stimulate the immune system.
Start brushing pet’s teeth at an early age. Use toothbrush/paste/dental gel specifically for pets.
If you have to bathe your pet use an oat or sensitive skin type of pet shampoo.
Use a slicker brush every night on pets’ fur to clean it and desensitize pet (we recommend using a smaller softer one for small dogs and a large one with longer bristles for big dogs.
Slicker brushes:
Clean the coat and remove dirt particles- eliminating the need for bathing
Stimulate the skin glands to produce oils- reducing the “doggy smell”
Stimulate the blood and lymph circulation for skin health
Massage the pet’s body enabling it to release toxins from the fat in the subcutaneous layer
TRAINING
What dog training do you wish more pet owners did, and what products can help facilitate that?
Gentle leads only
Choke collars if necessary to control pulling
Teach dog not to “jump” on humans or other animals
Not to pull and bark when being walked
Desensitize pets by brushing teeth, and coat, touching ears, and touching paws
TOYS FOR PETS
What are some toys (or toy types) you recommend for getting a dog’s energy out or stimulating dog and cat brains?
Kong Toys
Lick mats
Dog treat toys
Cat puzzles
Cat towers
Snuffle mats
NO LASERS type toys for cats
CALMING AND SECURING
What are some products that can help keep a dog calm?
Rescue Remedy for less calming
CBD calming treats for more calming
Veterinary prescribed medications
Creating a “safe space” for your dog
Secure an area of your home where your dog can go and be in their own space. It can be a crate or a corner with a soft blanket, or a pet bed.
We recommend blankets infused with Tourmaline for pets who need aid in calming and for pets that have diabetes
Do’s and Don’ts
Here are some product swaps we recommend (for example, safer options to rawhide treats, safer options to plastic bowls, etc.).
Do not use:

No plastic bowls
Use these instead:
Nylabones
Stewart Treats
Greenies Pill Pockets
Stainless Steel bowls (or ceramic or porcelain)
By introducing your pet at an early age to a holistic lifestyle you can prolong their life and lead them to have a healthier life without unnecessary medicines and procedures.
At Longevity Veterinary Center we introduce young pets to holistic therapies using supplements, herbs and oils. We also strongly encourage a raw food diet which is easily obtainable at our facility or local pet stores. We also limit vaccinations by encouraging vaccinal blood titers when vaccines are “due”.
In addition, to the recommended food products and treats, we offer many types of holistic treatments including:
Regenerative medicine – including Stem Cell and PRP (Platelet Rich Plasma)
For cancer treatment: Biophotonics (blood ozone treatments) and IV Vitamin C treatments and herbs
Fecal transplants (MBRT)
Herbs (aromatherapy)
Acupuncture
Chiropractic adjustments to establish a strong foundation
Reiki
